TEODOR TUFF: "Soliloquy"

Rating: 8/10

Label: Fireball Records 2011

Review by Kimmo Toivonen

Now this is something different - Norwegian Metal band Teodor Tuff have created a sound that truly separates them from the run-of-the-mill melodic metal bands. Built on the foundation of traditional metal of Iron Maiden and the likes, the band have added all kinds of flavours to their sound - a bit of Kamelot, some middle-eastern touches and even some quirkiness of System Of A Down. Not to mention some opera, exotic instruments and whatnot...

The guitarwork by Knut Lysklaett and Christer Haroy is outstanding, and vocalist Terje Haroy is simply brilliant - great range and a lot of power in his delivery. The rhythm section of Knut Hellem and Rayner Haroy has to be applauded too and I have no complaints about the production either. The only reason why I don't rate this higher than I do is the fact that some of the songs aren't that captivating. Then again, the highlights such as "Addiction", "Mountain Rose" and "Mind Over Matter" are indeed great, and I have a feeling that Teodor Tuff are one of the bands people will be talking about in 2012.
